Friday, 30 April 2021  – Meshack Kosgey, the brother of renowned gospel singer, Emmy Kosgey, has been jailed for five years after he caused the death of a 6-year-old boy through dangerous driving. Meshack killed the boy on December 25, 2017, along Nakuru-Mogotio Road. The deceased boy was crossing the road when the car that he was driving hit him. The boy died 4 days later while undergoing treatment. Eldama Ravine Senior Principal Magistrate, John Tamara, noted that Meshack had previously caused death by dangerous driving. In 2008, he faced charges of reckless driving after he hit and killed a cyclist. In the 2008 incident, the court ordered him to pay the deceased cyclist’s family Ksh 954, 000. Friday, April 30, 2021  – The mother of Elijah Obuong, one of the Kitengela friends whose body was found last week by sand harvesters in Murang’a County, has spoken. Obuong’s mother stated that she had identified the body as that of his son, noting that his body was intact and only had a few bruises. She suspected that her son could have been strangled to death. Following reports that the four friends were involved in criminal activities, Obuong’s mother defended her son, saying that he was only just a victim of circumstances. “My son was a staunch Adventist and did not take alcoholic drinks.” “He only had friends of questionable character,” she stated. “It is painful. Friday, April 30, 2021 –  A prominent Kenyan doctor who had earlier questioned vaccination of Kenyans against the COVID-19 disease has succumbed to the deadly virus. Dr. Stephen Karanja, who was a renowned gynecologist based at Nairobi’s Upper Hill Medical Centre, succumbed to the disease on Thursday. Dr. Karanja, who also served as the Kenya Catholic Doctors Association chairman, lost the battle to the virus at Mater Hospital in Nairobi after he was admitted there for some days. “He had been admitted with COVID-19, there is no official statement from the association as yet but I can confirm that he died on Thursday, April 29,” said one of the association members. Friday, April 30, 2021 –  Former Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko, is now begging Interior Principal Secretary, Karanja Kibicho, to forgive him after he linked him to the 2017 post-election violence. On Thursday, Kibicho’s lawyer, Fred Ngatia, told the court that he had received a statement from Sonko’s lawyers asking the PS to consider settling the matter out of court. The statement was reportedly authored by Sonko’s lawyer Evans Ondieki. “I have received a proposal from Ondieki for a possible settlement. Thursday, April 29, 2021  – More details on the 4 friends who went missing after having lunch at a popular entertainment joint in Kitengela have emerged. According to detectives involved in the investigations, the four were blocked by two Toyota Prado vehicles as they left the entertainment joint. The unknown abductors lay in wait for the four as they were having lunch and pounced on them once they stepped out. They were then forced into the Prados by their abductors before being driven away. A preliminary investigation indicates that the four men were on transit before they decided to stop at Club Enkare in Kitengela to eat  nyama choma. The body of one of the men has been found at Murang’a County Referral Hospital Morgue. The body was retrieved from Mathioya River on April 20, a day after the four were reported missing. Thursday, April 29, 2021  – Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has advised Chief Justice designate, Justice Martha Koome, to do whatever she has to transform Judiciary even if it’s ‘breaking the law’ for the good of the Judiciary. Thursday, April 29, 2021  – The body of one of the four men who went missing in Kitengela last week after meeting for Nyama Choma and drinks, has been found in Murang’a. The body of Elijah Obuong, 35, was retrieved from Mathioya River in Murang’a County stashed in a sack. According to Oboung’s brother, the body was moved to Murang’a County Referral Hospital morgue on April 20 by unknown people, a day after he went missing under mysterious circumstances.  “It is unclear who booked in the body at the facility,” he said. A postmortem examination is set to be carried out on the deceased’s body. Obuong and his three friends who are still missing had criminal records. Thursday, April 29, 2021  – Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has rekindled his dream of building a modern city in his county while recounting how a previous one was blocked by county leaders and other agencies. Speaking during an interview earlier today, Mutua revealed how he got an investment of 2.1 Trillion in his county but was later blocked through the court. He stated that the deal was blocked by his former Senator Johnstone Muthama after he challenged the plans to allocate the land for the project in court. Mutua noted that the investors were slapped with a six-year injunction period, which drove them away as, by its expiry, they had invested elsewhere, abandoning the original plan. He said by the time the injunction was lifted, the investors had already invested in other countries among others Rwanda, Uganda, Angola. Thursday, April 29, 2021  – President Uhuru Kenyatta has today revoked the appointment of Kembi Gitura as the board chairman of Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (KEMSA).  In the Gazette notice dated April 29, Uhuru appointed Mary Chao Mwadime as the new chairperson of the KEMSA board. Gitura’s sacking came a day after President Uhuru Kenyatta met United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken. The two leaders held bilateral talks during Blinken’s virtual visit to Kenya.   It was during this meeting that Blinken urged Uhuru to crack the whip on those involved in the mass looting at KEMSA. Blinken said the United States government is very concerned about the corruption in KEMSA, which is heavily funded by United States agencies, like USAID and PEPFAR.
